Julie Katrine Berg – Reservoir Engineer/PetrophysicistNorth Energy's focus on how the oil and gas industry would affect people in the north was an important factor in Julie Katrine Berg, a recent graduate, applying for a job with the Northern Norwegian oil company in 2009. She had barely completed her studies in Petroleum Technology (Bachelor's and Master's Degrees) before she packed up her life as a student in Bergen and moved home to Alta. Julie possesses competence that is in demand and works as a reservoir engineer/petrophysicist at our head office. Together with her co-workers, she is tasked with finding solutions that make it possible to fetch gas and oil up from the bottom of the ocean in an environmentally responsible manner. The local, and extremely enthusiastic northern girl studied Economics and Administration at Alta Upper Secondary School. While there, she took in-depth courses in scientific subjects. Subsequently, she graduated with a Bachelor's in Petroleum Technology, from the University of Bergen. And then in 2007 she went after a Master's in Petroleum Technology with a specialisation in Reservoir Chemistry, also at the university of Bergen. In 2009, she submitted her thesis, entitled: “Studies of Adsorption of Linked Polymer Solutions in Porous Media”. During her work on this she had also spent a semester performing research at China University of Petroleum, in Beijing. So this all led to the dream job in Alta, where she, in addition to exploring for oil, also work on recruitment for scientific professions. |

Bjørn Haugland - ICT AdvisorThe oil industry was completely foreign to Bjørn Haugland before he became a part of the team at North Energy in 2008. He is originally from Voss, has a great interest in technology and media, and has a Bachelor's in Media Technology from Gjøvik University College. For Bjørn, who previously worked with technology support, it has been particularly attractive to be a part of building up the IT systems in an industry that he had not been involved with before. At North Energy, he works with everything from operations in the computer room to user support in order to make daily life with IT simpler for the employees. The man from Voss has greatly increased his competence since he came to the company. The challenges are many, and the IT department often has to press the technology available on the market. For Bjørn, it is always fun to be a bit ahead and be working with new and exciting technology every day. The fact that there are a diversity of backgrounds, nationalities and ages among the employees also contributes to making Bjørn's daily work interesting. He has gained a better perspective on how different people are, both in work contexts as well as socially, and he likes being able to say “not a problem!” in six different languages. |
