North Energy's long-term focus is evidenced in contributions to the region's educational institutions. General enhancement of competencies and increased recruitment in scientific professions is the goal. North Energy supports a number of courses of study at university colleges and universities, however it is also directly involved in educational projects ranging from primary schools to the university level, providing assistance both with guest lectures as well as curriculum development in science and technology.
First Lego League
North Energy is involved in First Lego League, a world-wide competition with projects that combine innovation, technology and teamwork. Through this research and robotics competition, we participate in increasing awareness about science in practice, and strengthen innovation and teamwork as a form of work among the young. North sponsors the competition locally in Alta and several of our employees spend their leisure time participating as judges.

Lektor2
Since the autumn of 2009, North Energy has co-operated with Alta Upper Secondary School on the national test project entitled Lektor2. The Lektor2 programme is a project with the purpose of promoting the sciences in classes at primary and secondary schools. The Lektor 2 programme involves professionals from working life being involved directly in the education within areas where the school/subject teacher sees it as a possibility for increasing the learning benefits for the students as well as their interest in the subject. A number of North Energy's employees have contributed to the instruction in technology and the theory of research, as well as geoscience.

Energy School
North Energy is co-operating with Alta Upper Secondary School on the Energy Schools project. This is a pilot project with the purpose of stimulating interest in energy challenges and increasing recruitment to the energy sector. The project will give students at the upper secondary school level knowledge of local energy businesses and oil companies. The students must use energy businesses as a learning arena and have the opportunity to work together with the employees of the business. The co-operation will give the students an authentic experience of how scientific knowledge is used in working life. The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy is the project owner.
In the spring of 2011, North Energy arranged an exciting subject day for the school's students involving technology and the theory of research, as well as geoscience. The participating students received an introduction to how we explore for oil and gas, and they were challenged to interpret a 2D seismic on paper. At the end, the students received a case where they were supposed to look at different challenges in developing an oil field in the Barents Sea.
